Elle's Daily Inspirations began in January 2009 as a personal challenge to fill at least one blank page per day with an inspirational thought and image. This exercise in personal discipline has been right on the path of my continuous growth and has allowed me to "create" freely without personal judgement. As a result of my daily discipline I have found my own "voice", and encourage you to allow yours to evolve, as well.

Five Forbidden Kid Words March 4, 09
One of the challenges of raising a child is the cultural pressure put upon them through the media and peer pressure. Not promoting Dove, yet this video makes a powerful statement.
In my home too!! I'll add "hate" to that list you have there ;). McKayla caught an adult in her 60's by surprise yesterday when she told the lady,"Hey, you're not suppose to say the "S" word". Ha! I guess the lady never thought of the word "stupid" as the "S" word before. LOL.
Would you believe G rated Disney movies use the hate word? I have been so surprised with the language in childrens movies...Ants says "damn it", sleeping beauty (I believe that's the one) says "hate" and even though we love shrek...it has terrible language for a 4 year old. I try to encourage Mckayla to say she doesn't like something...for instance green beans, instead of saying she hates green beans. Hate is such a strong word. Now she thinks "hate" is a bad word and tells others they shouldn't say it =). Awww, to be 4 again.

ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of the Hate word...thank you! Guess we haven't come up on that one very often...yet!
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the "S" word. In our house the "B" word is the newest challenge.
Love ya!
